FAQs

Does insurance pay for PT?

Essentially all private insurance plans provide for a decent amount of PT. You must first obtain a physical therapy prescription with your doctors diagnosis of your injury or problem. Then give us a call and well find out exactly what your PT benefits are before you come in for the initial evaluation. All insurance plans vary significantly in coverage and deductible amounts.

Does PPT contract with my insurance company?

We contract with some insurance companies but not all. Even if we dont contract with yours, we will give you a substantial discount on your out of network copayment responsibility. For instance, if you go to a contracted provider where coverage is 80/20 (your copay is 20%), and at PPT it is 60/40, we will not collect the 40% from you, but usually just a $15 copay. Of course we need to also check how much of your deductible has been met.

How long is each PT appointment?

Generally speaking, the appointments are between 60-90 minutes. This includes 20-30 minutes of hands-on time with the therapist, followed by a series of focused rehabilitative exercises including stretching, strengthening, as well as educating you about your home program and self-management.

What is manual therapy?

Manual therapy is the hands-on component of PT, applied only by your therapist. It includes soft tissue mobilization to decrease soft tissue restrictions, limit adhesions and scar tissue formation, and to promote circulation, joint mobilization to loosen tight joints and restore normal mechanics, manual stretches to elongate muscles and connective tissues, as well as neuromuscular reeducation and strengthening techniques. Manual therapy is the critical difference maker in most rehabilitation processes and it is what separates the top PT clinics from the mediocre ones.
